all wrong
this place only works on low tide, maybe mid when bigger, ..as for the guy who lives 2 minutes away, ..there are no houses in 2 minute driving distance, maybe 5minutes from melkbos

Ahoy
To the dude tuning its not derdes - dude ... I surf this spot almost every other day of my life as I live less than 2 minutes drive from it ... that is most certainly derdes

And to the tide dude ... yea ... you're right .. mid tide is better but some years is has cooked on the dead high and others it has cooked on dead low ... last year it was best on mid pushing - so he's not entirely wrong?

hollow
it's a local break for me, works on high tide, and it goes off when it's working,a bit heavy sometimes, but defenitly worth it,you just have to be there on the right day,the whole of cape town goes off in winter ask anyone after we've had a big storm and the sky clears up,you have blue sky and thumping waves for locals enjoyment and the waters warmer, gas chambers is just up the road for those who like gnarly shorey.word!listen to the kings of leon and come to cape town

Really by Jared
Jared it doesnt work well on high tide.

It works low to pushing high, High tide it peaks out the back and fades into mush on the inside for all the boogers to revel in the shore break close out.

GET THAT IN YOUR HEAD!!!!

seasonal
This place should be avoided in summer. The wind blows too often, and the sand sits in bad places. Come early autumn, however, and throughout the winter, its definitely one of the best beach breaks in cape town. You really owe it to yourself to be there in glassy five foot conditions, when its at its best.

Rory
dunno what 'world-class' is supposed to mean. some of my best memories are of here - warm water late autumn early evenings in dark glossy tubes. usually short, yes, but sometimes sections can link for an epic ride. low or high tide can work, depending on swell size. anything below 5ft and low is better. towards high is better from 6 to 12 ft. anything bigger than that and you're gonna have a paddle. on a bigger swell it's worth going looking round the corner (north) at Haakgat for a long reef-breaking left.

World Class???
1st time I surfed 3rd steen today. Nice wave on the low tide, but definatley not world class. Lotsa peaks spreads out the crowds, but the rip is DOO-DOO.
