surfing in Republic of Palau
Like most surf destinations, wave heights vary seasonally. The most consistent waves are at the Melekeok channel on the eastern side of the island of Babelthuap. For many years this was one of Palau's best kept secrets, mostly due to the fact that travel to the area was difficult and there were only a handful of local surfers (mostly Palauans who picked up the sport living overseas). However, with new roads in place and the national capital now located nearby, the beaches and surfing waves of Melekeok are destined to become more well-known (and crowded).

For the more adventurous wave riders, tow-in surfing has been done on the southwest coast of Peleliu island (26 miles south of Koror) during the winter months when breaks can reach seven meters and run for hundreds of yards.
