Don't Stay at Casa Maur Casa Maur is run by a stingy crew! Beds go for $10 a night (on the pricier side for Popoyo) and they pay the local cleaning ladies C50 (or $2.50) for a full days work of cleaning and laundry. Most hotels pay double that. They are known for charging gringos different prices than nicas. Stay at La Tica or La Bocana, $6 bucks a night, great service, and good food

Nicaragua Surf Guide - Local Samir is a great local surfer who has knowledge of secret spots. He lives in Las Salinas, at the bridge. His cell number is 011-505-8674-2540

Popoyo I surfed this spot when it was really firing...15 foot faces. It was amazing. One of the fastest, most vertical drop-ins I've ever surfed. Unfortunately, there's only one take off point so it's tough to get a lot of waves. Highly recommended when there's a solid swell... Stay at Casa Maur. It's ten bucks a night but it's incredibly comfortable. The food is also amazing.

... I was nice to elvis I let his brother borrow my board. I stayed at martinez for one month and it was good up until the last 10 days. Elvis' parents were nice to me when he stole my shit and gave me a few free meals. The problem was when I had something he wanted and was trying to sell because I was down to no money. I said I would sell it to him but he could never get any money so one day I sold it to a brazillian and he bascially turned on me after that. His family were good people and had good cheap food but my room was next to their "hangout" area and they would bicker to eachother nonstop all day mostly just talking about money. In the time I was there I saw a spanish guy and another brazillian guy get in arguments with the guy there and leave. Thats just my take you can stay there but i'd rather pay another 2 bucks a night for a more peaceful place

Popoyo I surfed this place back in 1992, We stayed in las Salinas in the town bar that had a few little palapas for rent out back. For $3 a day and $3 meals it was a great trip, The mile hike to the break through the graveyard, the cow field with the bulls, which led out into the mangroves which led out to the ocean, to a short beach hike to the break really kept you in shape as if surfing pumping waves wasnt enough. I got to say that Popoyo was always at least head high on the small days and it absolutely pumped for most of my 3weeks I spent there. That wave is just like surfing one of the top breaks here in hawaii. I know it is now a little more developed with surf camps and everything, but I feel blessed to have scored it before all that, and to this day I will always remember that trip and that sic left, and fun right that me and the boys had to ourselves.

chica surfera I met Elvis too and he showed me a lot of incredible secret spots around the area, others accessible by boat. Act cool and you gonna get good feedback. Locals are not stupid. Maybe you were just a donkey, because Elvis is a nice person - if he likes you.
