Hamburg visit I have been surfing the gulfcoast of the United States for that past 25 years. I will be in Hamburg for two months, May and June (w/o surfboard). Please advise on surfboard rental, water temperatures, best surf locations and mode of travel from Hamburg. Thank you, BRM

Come to Germany! Germany is a large place, and it regales many fine waves, particularly in the winter to enjoy. But it is then very cold, therefore will recommended to correctly be equipped. I know that many people have prejudice against Germans, but we welcome you with the opened arms to come, our waves to experience and our culture. The German way is one of discipline and of innovation. We have wonderful waves on our north beaches and also in our rivers! Would you believe that we have river waves of the very high quality? I enjoy, in order to travel the world, for nice surf. The best place, which was I at all, is Indonesia. Native treated well there and excellent waving gave me. Many nice girls live in the there also. I invite all good surfers of the world to come to Germany and to enjoy our attractive ocean! In the winter we have waves upward from 3 meters, but the waves are smaller normally. Get a short board and at the most important, warm rubber, gloves, a hood and hiving!

SURFING IN GERMANY Surfing in Germany has always been and probably will always be something exotic! This is mainly due to the fact that the German North Sea coast is a unique phenomenon, the so called "Wattenmeer" which is at low- tide a muddy 30 km wide beach-like stretch in front of the coast, that doesn´t allow swell to hit. The only place where acceptable waves are to be had are the islands, which are positioned at the end of the Wattenmeer and can only be reached by long and expensive ferry rides(sometimes they make you pay for your board as well). The Baltic Sea gets some waves, but not as frequent as the North Sea, and smaller. Nevertheless for surfers from Hamburg and north Germany in general, good spots in Denmark are only a 4 hours ride and definitely worth a weekend or day trip on a good swell. Surfers from the western metropolitan area "Ruhrpott" even have acceptable surf in 2+ hours reach at the dutch coast. The rest of Germany had better move!
