I really like this beach. I think its good craic most of the time and is usually worth a visit when your in the neighbourhood. It is what you make at the end of the day

Inchy
Nice beach. Quite messy most of the time. Some good days. I've surfed around 6ft waves off the beaches and once saw 8-10ft(!!!!). Friendly locals, if you're at the line up, they'll give you waves. The beginners are all over the place though. It's getting quite cold there. Do NOT forget your booties.
Happy surfing.

rubbish
If you like weak, foamy waves with no discernable banks then you will enjoy it here. Absolute rubbish 360 days of the year. It takes a massive swell with plenty of South in it plus a N wind to get things going here which may only happen 5-10 days in the winter. Then add the fact that you have only 7 hours of daylight in winter and 4m tides here your chances of scoring even average waves here are low.

OK break
Fun beach break on its day. Unfortunately only works on strong(ish) SW swell, and the banks are a bit all over the place some of the time. Waves are weakish, so leave your shortboard at home unless the swell is above 3.5m SW @ 12 sec. Longboarding is fun in front of the hotel.

Drop ins
Great beach with virtually no aggro, but it would be nice if people learnt about dropping in and getting in the way. Might be waiting 10 minutes for a nice set only to have the wave taken or your ride blocked. I'm no pro, but sometimes takes some patience. Always worth an early morning, you'll have the place to yourself.

looking to share a few good peaks/pints
Planning on going back from the states in a year or so and would appreciate any info on the best time of year for this area and what type of wetsuit would be best suited for that time. Cheers.

Rip on big days
On biger days (5ft+) the rip on the sandbar will pull you into the boneyards and you will wear a few sets on the head before getting out. So be prepared and fit. Also give way if there is a surfer on the wave as you paddle out and head for the whitewater even if it means 15 minutes of paddling in the foamballs.

Currents & rips
The rips on the sandbar can be quite strong even on small tides and small swell. You constantly get pulled out of position, so is frustrating if you don't know how to line-up your position properly and you will constantly miss the sets.

...
Nice beach and when working you can get really nice rides. Less attitude than Long Strand/Castlefreke. Beginners can be a problem but more experiences surfers will actually let you have waves there unlike the freke

Crowds & drop-ins
Getting far too crowded lately with all sorts of folks out not knowing "the rules of the road" and "dropping in for tea". Can end up being a frustrating day with 3-4 people taking off on every wave! Better beginnners beaches are garretstown and Inch where it's usually more mellow and easier to learn. Better hollow waves for the more experienced in castlefreke which picks up much more of any swell with (South)West in it.
