Surfed this break in front of cartagena hotel which is a decent hotel for money. Choco-brown waist high with onshores on it. Still was surprisingly punchy. Few ramps and my friend pulled into a little hook. Had fun. Good to be in the water. Don't leave stuff on the beach.

Surfing buddy.
Hi I'm going to Cartagena looking for some surf for 3 weeks. If anyone is interested in searching out with me it'd appreciated. Any details or advice it will almost be welcomed.

Hi , I'M going to be in Cartagena around new year. I would like to know if there are places to rent boards and Wetsuits ? If yes , how much does it cost approximately ?

The Whole Deal
Best surf November to February, peaks in December. Normally 2-3ft during this time. Gets 3 big swells per winter when the best breaks come alive. It is dangerous, tourists still get killed couple times a year as of 2007. Stay in Bocagrande and use taxis at night. 95% of people are very poor here. Change hotels adleast every week so some desperate local dosnt plan out some something bad for you. The longer you stay in one place, the more people will see you as a monitary opportunity. They will be planning and plotting. Most people are very friendly but they think ALL Americans are rich, even poor surfers. Colombian Women go crazy over men with colored eyes. BarranquillasBest.com

I have to disagree.
Colombia was a completely different country in the 70's and 80's. At that time (and until the 90's), I beleive it was rated as the most dangerous country in the world.
Oh, how the times have changed. The Carribean coast is a tourist mecca; so much to see, so much to do, and your bang for your buck isn't bad. In general, the people of the coast are friendly and helpful. They are gracious that you are visiting and experiencing their beautiful country.
Just like anywhere you travel, there are a few bad apples. No, i wouldn't leave my sandals and backpack on the beach, and it helps to tip a kid to watch your car when you park. But how is this different from anywhere else? Be safe, and don't do anything (too) stupid.
In a sense, I am greatful for all the American fear-mongering; keeps the Gringos out of the water.

In less than two weeks I'll be heading back for my 6th time! Can hardly wait to hook into a few at Bolsillo and Salgar.

Muy Peligro
I was in Cartagena in the late 70's, and it was hands down the most dangerous place I've ever been. This is coming from a person who has traveled all over the world. Perhaps it's safer now, I don't know. But before you pack up your new custom epoxy, just understand Columbia is full of thieves, cut throats and drug dealers. And if you stay there long enough, they will get you one way or the other.

cartagena
Was just there in april and we surfed every day, not huge waves but good begginer waves at the jetty. Nightlife is insane, women are gorgeous!

The Jetty in March
I'm down here visiting and it's been alot of whitewash. Theres some swells; but there all wind swells clumped together so the waves break on each other and the rides are short. The color of the water is very similar to California state ebaches. I guess one good thing is the water is warm .

water&beach are dirty, no real waves it's like the mediterrenean sea....
