Tsunami ridden here - This is the spot where a tsunami was ridden way back in the 1960s. A couple of surfers got sucked out to sea and then rode some waves in, they didnt know they were tsunamis until the same waves they rode at sea kept going and crashed into the houses on the shoreline.

Kontiki - In february of 99 I surfed this huge wave. It was an amazing experience, 'cos you get the paddle a lot to get to the break, besides, I went there with nobody on the outside, so it was pretty much dificult to find the right place to wait the sets. Punta Rocas was great as well as La Isla but I coudn't left Peru without surf that wave. In a few minutes, there were 4 or more guys out there by my side, all in 7'5'' plus boards. Well that was my first experience in real big surf, and it helped me a lot, 'cos is a relatively easy wave to ride.I'm going back there this year and wait to surf there again.

Amazing Kon Tiki - In summer 2005 I spent 1 month at Punta Hermosa, waves every day and lots of surfers out at La Isla and Punta Rocas, but Kon Tiki which is about 20-25 min. paddle hardly ever have surfers out.

The quality of the wave is so so, at least during the time I was there, but you have almost every wave to yourself, and this wave is bigger than La Isla and Punta Rocas.

From the balcony at Maritas you have a perfect view to these mentioned surfspots.
Marita and Alfredo and their two sons are very friendly and Marita makes exellent food, keep your room clean, and the prize is reasonible.

The wave in the picture is Pico Alto - Kontiki can get tubular and be an excellent performance wave on its day (swells at the end of the summer). You´ll need a 7´6 at least.

kon tiki motumbo - This wave is super duper but the only bad thing is the long paddle. Surf it! it is never crowded

- I just spent 2 weeks at Pico Alto International Surf Camp and was very impressed by the way Oscar Moronte runs the camp, and how good the waves were. The camp is all inclusive with surf transfers to the local surf spots, lots of good food, and comfortable hotel room with running hot water. The food was the best part of the camp, it was good and when ever i asked for mroe they gae it to me. No one ever left the table hungry, we always had enough food.
The surf is great, make sure to bring a 4/3 wetsuit for the winter there, a 3/2 wetsuit wont do the job, trust me i wore a 3/2 and was cold a lot. Be ready for long paddles and foggy conditions, mbut the best waves of your life, this place is great, the camp is only 35 bucks a night USD, so thats around 200 a week with eveything, a great deal, they even have free internet and a new TV with lots of surf videos.
Punta Rocas was my favorite break, is was an easy drop in with fast lines, wear booties if it gets big, just incase you get washed out on the rocks.
Shout outs to Pulpo ( this guy would die for guest at the camp, he is a very standup guy), Jesus ( a good picture taker of me surfing), Oscar Jr. ( always handled any situation that might arise), and Oscar Sr. for running a great camp, i will definately come back.
only eat what they give you a the camp, you will get sick anywhere else!!!!!!
the locals here are really nice too, always got smiles in the water from the local surfers.

Kon-Tiki Blues - I surfed Kon-Tiki back in 1966. We were maybe 6 to 10 people out. All riding guns except me. Surf was 10-12 ft. solid with consistent sets of 4 waves. I had only a few months experience but managed to drop in a few. Wiped out at the bottom of a big mama and got clobbered unmercifully by a nasty set. Almost drowned in deep waters. Haven't stopped surfing since.
