- Surf in Tonga? Well, there can be small, fun waves (around head high) BUT ONLY IF YOU ARE LUCKY!! A 3-4 foot swell is considered to be "absolutely pumping" by Tongan standards and it can be flat for WEEKS at a time. ha'atafu will always have surfers waiting to hit it regardless of conditions too

Fickle - Hi there. Only spent 10 days in Tonga. Only had 1 good surf . Its a hit and miss sort of a spot. Cool people and crystal clear water.. a place to go on a honeymoon not a hard core surf exploration trip....Indos way cheaper and more consistent

Background - I went here during the summer (winter for Tonga) of '03, and it was pretty fun. Lots of hollow waves, so make sure you know what you're doing. Oh, and if you're a goofy foot, you're gonna love it, because during this time of the year it's all lefts.
