ig storms can make these spots work during the winter months. Better than you would expect!
We can even have VERY GOOD waves but the main problem is the very low frequency...You have to be at the right spot on the right moment...On-shore winds are a problem too...

Variations saisonnières de houle et de vent:
The French Mediterranean coast can be separated in 2 zones: From spanish border to TOULON-HYERES:2 dominant wind directions:- SE winds that blow mainly in winter season (September-February) and sometimes until May. They can bring great waves, and south swells can gives us 3-4 meters waves sometimes (very rare though...)- NO winds ,which is our region's typical wind direction,we call it "MISTRAL". It is nearly an offshore wind, except in MARSEILLE and also near TOULON, so you can surf unconsistant waves with that wind, and as the swell doesn't come from faraway these waves are only surfable with the on-shore wind...not very good...LE MISTRAL blows all the year but it blows more often during spring.* From TOULON-HYERES to Italian border:- East wind, which brings good waves from september to february, sometimes until may.- WSW wind, which is in fact MISTRAL whose directon was modified by the coast. This wind gives waves in Italia, so the Frenchies who live near the border often drive to Italia to catch the waves not too far from their home after all...ONE THING IS COMMON TO EVERY REGION HERE :SUMMER IS FLAT FLAT FLAT...In corsica they have great waves, mainly due to MISTRAL, but also other wind directions, but i don't know much about surfing there.
