English (Traducir este texto en Español): From the beach looking at the ocean- right side is small but clean consistant waves great for longboarding and beginners, middle to left is good sets great for all riders, left to far left is little bigger sets with a medium undertow(north and south waves meet). Not a good spot for beginners.
Open fires and BBQ are on the beach are ok and fireworks are ok. Overnight camping is ok on the beach and parking lot.Beach is huge so plenty of space. Camping on the grass in the back is 1000yen a night($10 us). Outdoor and indoor showers are 100yen for 5 minutes of water($1 us). Summer time there is a open shop in the back of the parking lot for eats and drinks. There is handicap access, shower, and toilet.

Miyazaki country love - Couldn t agree with you more LA! I haven t spent too much time surfing up Hyuga way but Im currently living about an hour and a half south of there on the northern edge of Miyazaki City. Great place to be, so much consistent swell and the friendliest local I ve ever seen anywhere. It s like living in something out of the distant past when you come from Cali!

great memories - I surfed Okuragahama about 3 to 4 times a week when I lived in Nobeoka from 95 to 2000. I really miss the place and the people. Yasu at Blast surf shop even shaped a 9'6' PWS for me I rode the last two years I was there. I still ride it on occassion and have had a few people ask me about it at Bolsa Chica and the HB Cliffs. Okuragahama really comes alive on a Typhoon swell. But when it shuts down the place to go is Hozei, near the Culture Center deep in Hyuga Bay. Locals are not to freindly because it does not break that often. Nobeoka also has some good waves at the Gokasei River mouth at a spot called Hosai. A little further north in Kitaura is point-beach break called Shima-no-Aso that works on a Typhoon swell when everywhere else is out of controll. All these spots are well known in Miyazaki-ken and the rest of Japan with lots of Kengaihito showing up anytime there is a swell, so I am not giving away any secrets. Japanese peopele in general and Japanese surfers in praticular are the friendliest and most generous people in the world. I really enjoyed talking to all the people in the line up and the positive vibe I experieinced while surfing. It is something I miss to this day. I can not think of a better place in Japan than northern Miyazaki-ken for a surfer to live.

Any experienced travelers with some advice? - Aloha, I have been pulled to Japan, but need some real info. from someone whos been. I love rural, and not so populated, I am also an avid martial artist. Do you know where there is a Dojo and surf close to each other? Iam dreaming big and want to manifest my dream, any help is much appreciated. Aloha
