Whiritoa beach is about 1km long at the most, if that. And is a steep beach that produces a shore break type wave that breaks around 20-30meters off the beach. The swell comes out of deep water pretty quick and jacks up fast so the take off is often tricky if you leave it too late.

It's just a beachie and the banks are always changing, sometimes it'll be just a closeout, but on the other hand it can have some real nice draining banks that make for some heavy tube rides. This part of the coast is really nice, especially during the summer months as the water is nice and warm for swimming etc, well worth a trip even if you don't want to surf.

It breaks whenever there is swell on the east coast, and it doesn't require much swell to produce a wave. The east coast however isn't as consistent as we'd like, hence the "sometimes break" rating.
