Brighton Beach - Lake Superior: Brighton Beach is a rock/boulder beach just up Hwy. 61 in Duluth, MN that, given the right storm, can produce rideable waves. Water temperature is similar to that of Northern California and a wet suit is recomended. The waves are usually mushy and alot of times closed out. However, about four or five times per summer/fall it is firing. There are no sharks and the local scene is virtually nonexistant; but the bottom and beach are made up of large boulders and sharp rocks. Since this is a beach break that breaks onto these large boulders and rocks, getting out can be tricky and getting tossed can be devastating.

Seasonal swell & wind variations:
Lake Superior waves live and die by wind power; so Brighton is only surfable when the wind is blowing from the S or SE. If the wind isn't blowing from that direction the water will most likely be smooth as glass. This is a spring/summer/fall only area as in winter the temp drops down to below freezing and the lake freezes. Early spring can produce epic conditions but large chunks of ice (some larger than cars) floating in the break and crashing on the beach as the lake thaws can be hazardous.
