As the first capital of Brazil, from 1549 to 1763, Salvador de Bahia witnessed the blending of European, African and Amerindian cultures. It was also the first slave market in the New World, with slaves arriving in 1558 to work on the sugar plantations. The city has managed to preserve many outstanding examples of Renaissance architecture and is recognized as a Unesco Heritage site.
Warm water year round, consistent, if not world-class surf, laid-back Afro-Brazilian culture....

- Ah Bahia- touches my heart. Not a place for the week minded gringo- There are many ways to be fucked over if you get involved in drugs- Rip offs and setups are common no matter how nice the guy seems. Be prepared for shirt tugging poverty strucken children missing arms or legs. Brasil is paradise for those who can find it- for others it is an oppressive dangerous place (at least Rio and north). The south is more tame. Be careful and wrap it up because sex is abundant and so is disease. Happy travels and stay strong!!!!!!ps. any problems- find the cops they will do there best to help you evn if it requires beating someone down- trust me.pss. people do hide in corners and bushes- never take more than you are willing to lose.
