Warm water all year - very friendly locals - unless you happen to be Prime Minister or on an opposing Rugby Team.... great place to surf - or to just hang out and enjoy the tropical paradise!

Plus: world class surf spots, tubular reefs, powerful and frequent swells

Minus: few rights, bad winds during winter, boat access to the surf spots.

There is only one area of beachbreak (Sigatoka), and it can be quite challenging. For the most part, boats are needed to access most every other break. In some cases, resorts negotiate usage rights that can keep transient traffic from accessing their waves. Out of the way places without much tourist traffic may be more accessible to the home-stay traveler. Local knowledge will help you along. For an inexpensive resort with access to lefts, I would strongly consider a stay at Batiluva on Yanuca island. It is a beautiful place with daily rides to Frigates.

Fiji Surfing and Sailing - crew wanted - Hi all, We are sailing our yacht to Fiji in July 2018, and have a couple more bunks for live aboard surfer crew who want to explore the islands, and surf, windsurf, kitesurf etc.. Based around Namotu/Tavarua area, with all the breaks accessible - Cloudbreak, Wilkes, Namotu Lefts etc.... Back to the island bar for drinks and bbq in the evenings. Coral Coast Crawling - Howzit, Im heading to Fiji tomorrow and Im going to be based on the coral coast at Hideaways. I have surfed out around Tavarua and Namoutu previously but haven't had a lot of experience around the coral coast. It looks like the swell is going to be in the triple overhead range at hideaways so will be unsurfable for the next week Im guessing. Has anyone surfed this coast at this size. Any advise on where to hit. I heard inside Natadola can be sick when it gets some decent size in there?...Also would Pipe and serua be smaller than Hideaway?....Cheers

Matanaivusi Resort - Coral Coast - A knock on this place is that the owner/operator (Brian) frequently joins guests for a surf and takes his own wave count seriously. He can get very defensive as well. Not my idea of hospitality.
