great spot - needs a lot of swell, if there are waves then it is always worth taking a look. Needs the correct tide, mid tide is best, high tide and the place gets unreal backwash, really low tides line the place up. Surfed here in May 08 during a great south and it was peaky as hell with maybe 10 guys out up and down the entire beach. HB was 10 foot faces and a mess and anderson was head high and so fun.

It deserves 4 stars for those 1/2 dozen days per year when it works. - ANY Orange county SURFER who's surfed both HB & NB on a regular basis KNOWS THE TRUTH about this area. When both plans A & B are too big or gnarly, you head for Seal beach w/ your fingers crossed that the swell can squeeze it's way into that place for some fun. Checking out Sunset beach's lonely waves can yield a big surprise when the place comes to life; whilst doing it's proverbial thing. That 'thing' that it does is well worth a decent surfer's wait coz it gets frikken fantastic & provides memories that will last a lifetime 4 THOSE WHO CAN HANDLE THE TRUTH!!

you know what - i'm a nice guy who literally lives above the spot. i hate it when it gets crowded in a spot that is basically my back yard but you know what? that's a price i have to pay for living in such a nice little town. and when it's at its best, i still pretty much have my own peak because most of you don't know when to come down hahaha.
