General
really cool place lots of things to see besides the waves. if you get there befor the tide comes in check out the caves and the private beach but bring somthing for your feet the rocks start to get more and more painfull the farther you walk

gotta love rocks - If your surfing this place is probably only worth it when it is a south swell thats making over head waves and the tide is medium to high. out of 50 times to strands I've seen this wave worth going out for 3 or 4 times. Usually it's not big enough and there are simply too many rocks to not risk hitting them at the end of each wave. When it is over head it can be a rush because first you need to stay high on the wave to avoid taking your fins off on a few of the outside rocks and then the power of the wave is exceptional if you get taken down. I've experienced one of the longest hold downs I've ever had here on a 12 foot day, and I've been out on a lot of 12+ foot days.

1000 stair - i was at 1000 stairs literally a month ago with my parents, on a 5 foot swell..pretty nice at blacks, and all that the wave is good for is skimboarding or messing around on a potato chip surfboard. its not even deep enough outside for a line to show anymore, and there are two massive rocks out there, one that you can see as soon as you descend from the steps, and then another one like 100 feet outside of it that only shows up on a low tide. that spot is dead. and its like 256 steps.

DON'T GO HERE! - Steps is a sacred place and the locals here can be some of the nastiest around. You must treat it with respect and never exploit it. That means no pictures or video of any kind. Sure you might get away with a session or two but sooner or later the locals will spot you and kick your ass. I have narrowly escaped shotgun blasts only to find slashed tires on my car. I won't go back. I am no beginner either, I have been surfing for 20 years. The world is big, go look for another spot that rebounds like this cove. Leave this to the locals
