It works best when Padre is blown out or during a cold front. Swells from the northwest wrap around the jetty and make nice waves.
Drug dealers and illegals were a bad problem for a wile, but the border patrol and coast guard are in full effect down there now.

definite regional classic - best time to surf is definently cold fronts because of the waves from padre but for texas these waves can be really nice, probably the best in texas on a good day, with tropical storms or hurricanes coming in this is a stooooooked place to surf.no real hazards, breaks are by the jettys

- Paddled over one day when Isla Blanca was sideshore chopcicles... Well worth the paddle! Because the waves wrap on NE swell, paddling next to the jetty is easy. Probably better stay in Isla Blanca for S, SE, E swells though.
